There are fortunes to be made if one knows how to swallow one’s principles and tap dances on demand to the tunes of the establishment. This is especially true if one happens to be a black pundit; the quickest way to gain a platform and to garner a wide audience is by becoming a step-n-fetch it water carrier of Democrats and the liberal order. Let me introduce you to the ultimate coon show that is Joy-Ann Reid; a Sojourner Truth in reverse, MSNBC’s black token is proof-positive that it pays well to be a lawn jockey of neoliberalism.
There is nothing redemptive about Joy-Ann; watching her show is an exercise in masochism that only leads to the lowering of IQ points and the erosion of common sense. For an hour a day, she preens on cable TV and assassinates truth and journalism alike as she literally parrots Democrat talking points and disparages anyone who dares to question the party of Jefferson, Jackson and Lyndon Baines Johnson. It’s an embarrassment really; I have not witnessed that level of subservience since I saw a documentary of the cult in Jonestown.

I admit, there was a time when I actually thought Joy-Ann was a fierce truth-teller. But that was more than a decade ago when I believed that Barack Obama was an agent of change and I broke my back to get the First Bank President elected. Incidentally, I had the misfortune of meeting Joy-Ann once during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC in 2012. I was there covering the convention as an independent journalist and was seated at the table next to hers. We exchanged phone numbers and I felt truly honored to have gotten to know her acquaintance.
Fast forward seven years later and I see her as the empty mannequin that she is. Far from being an advocate for justice, she is a champion of the status quo. She makes a show of being a proponent of “black” people and a defender of the marginalized, but all of that is a shtick that covers up her true hostility towards the poor, working and middle-class. Like Baghdad Bob denying the existence of Americans in Iraq, Joy-Ann’s role is to make Democrat voters content with the façade of progress and to distract them from the heinous policies that her favored party keeps enacting that cripples the vast majority of Americans.
To say that Joy-Ann is a rabid, delusional and wild-eyed charlatan is akin to stating that Donald Trump is a perfect gentlemen and Joe Biden would be a great babysitter. She regularly says some of the most outlandish things this side of Fox News; Joy-Ann is a black-faced Rush Limbaugh with boobs. Her guests are there not to offer in-depth analysis or to contribute original ideas; to the contrary, the panelists she invites are there to echo her drivel. I’d rather read a read out of the telephone book than subject myself to an hour of the ReidOut. See for yourself if you are brave enough to sit through 18 minutes of self-harm on par with listening to Joe Biden trying to explain the economy.
This afternoon, Joy-Ann got her bloomers in a bunch and outdid her usual fatuity by losing her shit over the treatment that Neera Tanden received during her nomination hearings. She rushed to the defense of her twin-troll as she lambasted anyone who dared to rightly point out Neera’s juvenile tweets. Joy-Ann turned towards the art of identity politics that she perfected as she painted Neera’s blocked nomination that kept her from becoming the next Director of Office of Budged Management through the lens of racial and gender-based grievances.
Joy-Ann cried a river of crocodile tears as she made it seem like Neera’s loss represented some type of reversal for all “people of color” and women. Never mind that Neera is about as connected to the average disadvantaged groups as Jeff Bezos is to his warehouse workers that he treats like indentured servants. Never mind that Neera has advocated for policies that have murdered countless number of “people of color” in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond and that she has likewise endorsed neoliberal policies that have impoverished the working class and decimated the middle-class. All that matters is that she has melanin in her skin and a vagina between her hips.
The problem with Neera Tanden is not her mean tweets. She is a racist warmonger and she said that we should take Libya’s oil to ‘pay us back’ for bombing the apparently. Shortly after making a donkey out of herself by running interference for a failed nominee, Joy-Ann made an even bigger ass out of herself by pivoting to “white supremacy” and the “N” word. Yet again, she leveraged the pains of “black” people and tried to use racism as both a shield and a sword in order to silence anyone who does not share her ideological positions. Joy-Ann is who Malcolm X warned us about a long time ago, a Bourgeois hustler who climb on our backs to get ahead only to step on our necks to keep us where we are at.
