It’s a playbook as old as the bible and tried and true as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Throughout human history, at least since victors started recording lies in their books, people who spoke truth to power have been assassinated by the powerful. In each case, it was a lone snitch or a solitary shooter who was blamed for felling prophetic voices. Once is an accident, twice is a trend, but when it happens on a regular basis, people who don’t easily ingest propaganda know that prophets are being silenced by those who profit through injustice.
For the record, prophets did not cease to exist once the calendar flipped to A.D. Prophets are born every generation as are the Pharisees who eventually silence them by way of bullets or scandals. Prophets are people who cannot abide oppression and choose to speak against those who purvey it. There is a reason I chose a quote from Bob Marley’s song “Redemption Song” as the title of this article; Marley was a prophet who sang against iniquities only to die before his time. Marley was a prophet with a guitar, though he might not be with us, his music still defies the establishment.
At this exact moment, another truth-teller by the name of Julian Assange is currently bearing the brunt of persecution for daring to expose the lies of the ruling class. In an age of journalism that has been co-opted by corporations and “reporters” who obsequiously echo the very powers they are supposed to check, Assange and the group WikiLeaks he founded chose a different path—he chose to expose the malfeasance of public serpents. These public serpents are bipartisan and don’t differentiate based on ideology and identities that we have been conditioned to accept. Take notice of the cowardice of Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the supposed “progressive” who have cast their lot with the same masters who own Trump.
For his act of courage, Assange has been effectively locked up against his will in the Ecuadorian Embassy for close to seven years. While corporate shills like Rachel Maddow, Sean Hannity, Don Lemon et al are paid handsomely to bastardize news and spread propaganda, a modern day media prophet like Assange has been forced into near solitary confinement in one building for fear of being extradited and getting the Chelsea Manning treatment. Please do not believe the trumped up charges that have been brought against him, Assange’s sin is making the mistake of revealing the heinous actions of governments in Washington DC, London, Paris and malicious heads of state throughout the world.
The way the establishment has reacted to Assange is predictable, he brought to light their insidious dealings and threatened their hustle in the process. Ravenous swine react viciously when you try to take away their feeding troughs. What is dismaying is the inaction of the public, the very people Assange was working on behalf of.Instead of being outraged by Julian Assange's treatment, the vast majority of Americans, Brits, Parisians and beyond chose to be impotent in the face of despotism. #Unity4J #ProtectJulian Click To Tweet
As Bob Marley sang, how much longer will they kill our prophets while we stand aside and look? Injustice against one is injustice against all, so noted Martin Luther King. This is especially true when the injustice is committed against the ones who decide to sacrifice themselves on behalf of humanity. Here is what I know to be true, if we stand aside and let Donald Trump, Theresa May, Emmanuel Macron and the globalist oligarchs they slavishly serve take Assange and silence him by one means or another, the broader public who did nothing will have just as much blood on our hands as the malevolent rulers who nullified his voice.
As Caitlin Johnstone noted in an earlier article, it is time for all of us to rally to the side of Assange and defend him from maltreatment. In my heart, I disavow revolutions and forsake violent insurrections. However, the more I observe those who rule with force and are blinded by hubris, the more I doubt if these people can be reasoned with. Perhaps the only way they will relent is if they have the fear of God put into them—a day of reckoning is right around the corner. Injustice will not reign forever, the same way the moon reigns during the night, the sun will arrive that will reveal the treachery of depraved “royals” who govern through subterfuge and cunning.
When that day of judgement arrives, all the money in the world and the most fortified bunkers ever built will not be enough to forestall consequences that arrive for all.
I ask this of the rank and file who serve the institutions that prop up these governments and their plutocratic masters, please choose humanity over saluting immoral orders. You signed up to serve and protect the least among us not to oppress them for the sake of paychecks or traditions. I ask each of you to look into your hearts and choose love above your loyalty to the state. As for the rest of us, it is high time that we stop being medicated by politics and letting our differences overshadow our commonalities. Unite and defend the truth tellers or stay fractured and see where that gets us—the boil cometh.
“It take many a year, mon, and maybe some bloodshed must be, but righteousness someday prevail.” ~ Bob Marley
