Facebook Plans to Squash Grassroots Organizing Efforts

So, I was traipsing through cyberspace the other day when I happened upon an article outlining new, and drastic, changes coming to the Facebook platform during 2019.

On March 6, Herr Zuck announced that he’s moving Facebook over to a private messaging format, as opposed to the current newsfeed style we know and love (kinda.) WhatsApp and Instagram will be affected as well. The company cites the security breaches Facebook had recently, but they are fooling no-one.

Look, Zuck, we already have umpteen different options if we wish to communicate privately with our friends and family. We don’t need another one. You say that’s what the public wants. We, the public, say you’re full of it.

The switch you are planning will destroy social media as we know it, and that’s exactly what you want.

Since the 2016 elections, political activists have perfected their social media messaging game. We learned how to reach undecided voters, organize strategy and events, and foster a sense of community that makes us unbeatable in 2020 (assuming the DNC doesn’t pull any slimy shenanigans).

The DNC embrace only the made capos, true change makers are relegated to the sidelines and ignored. We must rise up against this.

The result has been Bernie Sanders leaving all the other Democratic Party contenders in the dust. This has not gone unnoticed by the uber-wealthy oligarchs who might actually have to pay taxes when Bernie sets up shop in the White House.

Facebook has already been messing with our flow since early this year with their lame algorithm changes designed to show us more food and kitty pics and less of that pesky current events stuff. After all, Zuckerberg knows what you what to see more than you do. Trust in the Zuck. You know, the dude that was selling your information to advertisers.

And, as many of you know, growing censorship on the platform is truly alarming and consistently worse, especially since they no longer feel the need to provide an explanation of how a user has violated “community standards.”

Criticizing establishment neo-liberal members of the Democratic Party obviously violates community standards in their eyes, but they can’t come right out and say the only reason your posts get yanked, or you’re doing time in Facebook jail is because the Facebook Powers That Be don’t like your politics.

But that really is what it boils down to. Everyone knows it, but Facebook doesn’t care and doesn’t have to from where they sit.

We are just here to generate obscene wealth for one of the richest plutocrats in the world. Facebook is totally cool with endless violence and sexism on their platform but reach for the smelling salts if you call Hillary Clinton the Howling Hagbag (this I know from experience).

Consolidated power has turned Facebook, Twitter and Google into tyrants of the information age. If you want to know WhatsApp, it’s called corporate despotism.

We will get what we get and like it — or leave. Which brings me to my next point. This is a truly alarming and game-changing eventuality. It’s looming on the horizon, and we simply cannot afford to get caught off-guard.

We’ve built incredible momentum and must maintain our forward trajectory. We need to get an escape plan in place because when the change comes it will be unannounced hoping to catch us unaware and unprepared. We can’t afford to be passive here. We have an election to win.

Do we move to another platform like MeWe, or make one of our own? Revive MySpace? Are there other options as immediate and interactive as Facebook is now? #UnwindFacebook Click To Tweet
